چکیده

Interleukins are low molecular weight proteins produced by leukocytes that bind to cell surface receptors and act in an autocrine and/or paracrine fashion. These secreted factors modify the cell differentiation program (survival, proliferation, maturation, induction of or protection from apoptosis) of the target cells to which they bind. As such, interleukins impact on diverse biological processes: tissue growth and repair, hematopoietic homeostasis, and at multiple levels of the host defense against pathogens. It is therefore not surprising that the rather generic designation ‘interleukin’ does not refer to a homogeneous family of proteins, but instead to groups of proteins that adopt different threedimensional structures, bind to distinct classes of receptors, and initiate unique signal transduction pathways. Our discussion of interleukins will be structured according to the two main classes of receptors to which they bind: the type I and type II cytokine receptor families and the IL1R/TLR (interleukin-1 receptor/ Toll-like receptor) superfamily.

Salvianolic acid B improves insulin secretion from interleukin 1β-treated rat pancreatic islets: The role of PI3K-Akt signaling

Background and Objective: Oxidative stress induced by proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β plays a major role in β-cell destruction in diabetes type 1. Salvianolic acid B (Sal B) is a polyphenolic compound with antioxidant and protective effects. Thus, objective of this study was to assess the protection exerted by Sal B on isolated rat islets exposed to IL-1β and to investigate an underlyin...

Effect of Vitamin D treatment on Interleukin-2 and Interleukin-4 Genes expression in Multiple Sclerosis

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of central nervous system. The etiology of MS is slightly known, but genetic and environmental factors are reported. Vitamin D regulates gene expression and affects target cell functions. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression variation of IL-2 and IL-4 genes under vitamin D supplementation in patients with mult...

Protosappanin A protects against atherosclerosis via anti- hyperlipidemia, anti-inflammation and NF-κB signaling pathway in hyperlipidemic rabbits

Objective(s): Protosappanin A (PrA) is an effective and major ingredient of Caesalpinia sappan L. The current study was aimed to explore the effect of PrA on atherosclerosis (AS). Materials and Methods: Firstly, the experimental model of AS was established in rabbits by two-month feeding of high fat diet. Then, the rabbits were randomly divided into five groups and treated with continuous high ...

Electroacupuncture attenuates chronic fibromyalgia pain through the phosphorylated phosphoinositide 3-kinase signaling pathway in the mouse brain

Objective(s): Fibromyalgia (FM) is a central nervous system disorder characterized by widespread mechanical hyperalgesia due to unknown mechanisms. Several inflammatory mediators, such as interleukin-1 (IL-1), IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor, are increased in the serum of FM patients. Although medications including pregabalin, duloxetine, and milnacipran are used...

ارزیابی اثرات کوئرستین بر پروتئین های سیگنالی pSTAT3، pERK1/2، pAKT و بیان ژن اینترلوکین-6 (IL-6) در رده سلول های سرطانی پروستات PC3

Background and purpose: Interleukin-6 (IL-6) causes the progression of prostate cancer through pSTAT3, pERK1/2, and pAKT cell signaling proteins. Quercetin, an herbal antioxidant, has anti-tumor effect. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of quercetin on IL-6 gene expression, and the above cellular signaling proteins in PC3 prostate cancer cells. Materials and methods: In this ...

Duloxetine by Modulating the Akt/GSK3 Signaling Pathways Has Neuroprotective Effects against Methamphetamine-Induced Neurodegeneration and Cognition Impairment in Rats

Background: The neuroprotective effects of duloxetine, as an antidepressant agent, and the neurodegenerative effects of methamphetamine have been shown in previous studies. Nonetheless, their exact neurochemical and behavioral effects are still unclear. In the current study, we sought to clarify the molecular mechanisms involved in the protective effects of duloxetine against methamphetamine-in...
